Find Out Exactly Where You Are At, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME for FREE!
Thanks to the recent launch of the new GLONASS, Global Navigation Satellite System and some innovative new technology you can now find your exact position anywhere in the world via any common Internet capable terminal. This is also good for radionavigation, automatic vehicle location (AVL), C/A Code, differential, DGPS, navigation, vehicle tracking, precision farming, precise timing, position-reporting, ITS, intelligent transportation systems surveying etc. Before now to use any GPS device to find your exact position costs thousands of dollars. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) units are more common than ever...being used to locate fishing hotspots, or for the location of a prime hunting area. Designed for the indoor enthusiast, GPS services are now truly affordable and easy to use. The benefits of satellite navigation are now available at a price that is truly affordable. Free!
Operator Headgap Systems is proud to announce we are now offering this as a free service to all our users. http://headgap.com/GPS/

TeleFinder News 10-11-00 The CrushFTP site has changed urls - http://crushftp.terrashare.com/
For those of you who don't know about Crush it is a Full scale FTP server. Cross platform. If you can run JAVA 1.1.8 or better, then you can run CrushFTP. It works well running in conjunction with TeleFinder. Ask for FTP access to Headgap/TFBBS is you are a TF Sysop. Robust, flexible, and easy to use. Inexpensive commercial quality product for a shareware fee of only $20. Fast, multithreaded design. (927.25 KB/s downloads and 1,92.42 KB/s uploads achieved during recent tests using a 44.6 MB test file. Server was a 450 MHz Celeron with 192 MB of RAM running Windows 2000. Client was a 333 MHz Celeron with 128 MB RAM running Windows 95.) Resume download...as well as resume upload. This was my initial reason for writing CrushFTP. A few Mac servers supported resume download, but none supported resume upload. You should be running the most current version of MRJ 2.2.3 available from the apple site.

A couple of cool things happening!
Gannett News bought a second copy of TeleFinder so they can set it up in their Sydney office to cover the upcoming Olympics.
Kodak's Pro line of digital cameras that are coming out soon will have a built in modem and will include a script to allow the news services to upload directly to a TeleFinder BBS.
9.04 & TeleFinder Test?
I have been running 9.04 on a test box with TeleFinder Server and TCPIP nodes. I have been running 9 stripped down but so far have had no problems once I took out all of the Microsoft extensions and quit trying to run Explorer on the same box. Only been messing with it a short while. If anyone wants I can send my AppleSystemProfiler file to show what control panels and extensions I have active. Drop me an email.
While I hear some folks say they have trouble, I hear others that are running it without problems. I still personally recommend 8.6 since the changes to 9 primarily are user interface. I do realize that when you buy a new box however it comes with 9 and it is hard to get 8.6 installed on a new box without buying 8.6 if you don't already own it.
Program Updates
There are new versions of Macjordomo (1.5fc24) a listserver I run. There is also a new version of CrushFTP (CrushFTP2b3.) which I also run. The Crush guy is still having memory leak problems but is working on it. I restart Crush daily right now to prevent problems.

You can of course download the icons and link them locally or if you like you can cut and paste this code into your pages. This will enable your users to download the latest versions of TeleFinder Mac or PC Client from one of my mirror servers.

Netcraft does surveys of what servers are being used on the Internet. While TeleFinder does show up as a MacOS server the numbers weren't all that great from the last survey. Most of your sites were not present in the survey. If you have a minute stop by and enter your site url so that the proper information on who is running TeleFinder will be recorded. Thanks. http://www.netcraft.com/whats/

I was a very active beta tester and participant in the Video Chats and later chats and have been a long standing supporter of TeleFinder Software. My wife and I have been running Headgap BBS for almost 15 years now and when we were looking for new BBS software we called Rusty. Version 5.0 had just been released and I liked what Rusty told me. He said that all BBS's in the future had to be integrated with the Internet and that is where he was taking the software. After Rusty moved and took a job with Apple we began talking with him about taking over distribution and support.
I cannot say that there will be continuing development. We do not own the rights; they still belong to Spider Island Software. We will continue to develop and garner tools and materials to help you use your TeleFinder Server and support your TeleFinder Client users.
Daniel O'Leary, the sysop of Klone Zone BBS (http://kz.eaze.net), has taken on the task of gathering the TeleFinder systems together to keep TFNet (a group of TeleFinder related conferences). This means that any supporting system has all the conferences linked, so you can post questions or comments and get responses from all over the world. Martijn_Dekker is also updating the list of available TF Systems.
Since continued advancing development is not on the immediate agenda, Rusty agreed that a reduction in price was in order. The system works with OS9 but personally I find that OS versions up through 8.6 offer stability and speed while using less resources for using the server. Rusty tells me that the software should even work all the way through OSX, although it will have to operate in classic mode. That means lots of folks can continue to use the client software for a few more years, and of course the web side will be available even longer. Our web site will soon show the new pricing structure. Watch for new information at: http://tfbbs.com or log on the bbs at: bbs.headgap.com
Make sure and leave an email with your handle if you are an existing sysop for increased access.
